I have retired from formal academic positions and now work independently designing some select medical instruments. I worked at IIT-Bombay for a dozen years, then at CMC-Vellore for about 20 years and most recently for 4 years at IIT-Jammu [here are some pictures] A lot of my present work is with former colleagues at CMC-Vellore.
My wife and I live in the mountains of the Western Ghats in The Nilgiris.
Our coordinates are: 11.407N, 76.812E, and 2000m elevation above sea level.
My research interests have been in physiological measurement, and instruments for neuromuscular and neurological diagnosis and intervention. My research has been in the area of skeletal muscle behaviour, neuromuscular rehabilitation, and musculoskeletal and neurological measurement.
My current work is on designing, prototyping and transferring technology for: (a) a handheld intraoperative neuromonitor, (b) a wireless network of multiple FES devices for coordinated muscle control. I have a small lab and workshop at home.

I have taught many subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students over the last 35 years; mainly biomedical signal processing, medical instrumentation and physiological systems modelling. Having worked in both engineering and medical institutions, I have tried to talk to both groups using verbal descriptions, analogies, mathematical formalization and numerical simulations, and have had decidedly very mixed success.
My book "Signals and Systems in Biomedical Engineering: Physiological Systems Modeling and Signal Processing" is intended for such a mixed readership of medical, engineering and science students. Starting out tentatively with some signal processing simulations in the first edition I have increasingly added physiological systems simulations in successive editions - the hope is even when the reader finds the mathematics in their algebraic form impenetrable, the graphical simulations will provide quick access to the mathematical forms. The book is now in its 4th edition which is some measure of its modest success.
The reader's access to such mathematical simulations is often limited by the particular computer being used, its Operating System, installation procedures, etc. The present edition has both Windows Executables (which will run very well under WINE in Linux) and apps that can be viewed in a webbrowser on any internet compatible modern device like laptops and smartphones.
